Wildfire Today has learned that the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees (CNPSR) and the National Parks Conservation Association have filed suit in federal court today, January 6, in Washington D.C. claiming the Department of Interior did not properly apply NEPA when the Bush Administration recently made a rule overturning the ban on concealed-carry guns in National Parks which had been in effect since the 1930s. The suit also asks for an injunction to preclude the DOI from enforcing this new rule which is scheduled to go into effect on Friday.
All loaded guns have been banned in National Parks, but the new rule would allow individuals with concealed-carry permits to carry loaded concealed handguns in Parks. The new rule would still ban long guns in parks.
