Firefighter killed at grass fire in Oklahoma

John C. Myers of the Wesley Fire Department in Atoka County, Oklahoma, died yesterday afternoon, January 3, when the vehicle he was driving collided head-on in dense smoke with a vehicle being driven by his son, Juston Myers. The father, John C. Myers, died at the scene, while his son, Juston, was treated at the accident. Juston's passenger, Clayton Rice of Pittsburg was hospitalized in good condition.

Our thoughts are with the Myers family and the Wesley Fire Department.

And so it already starts in 2009: a wildland fire death on a grass fire! Let the grass, brush and timber (and yes, even homes and other structures) burn if it means endangering another wildland firefighter!

Amen to that, I dont want a CDF or NF dude/dudette getting so much as a busted limb defending my Crib!

I keep it clear, if it burns, I wont shed a tear

But if a hand crew died at mine

I'd feel the guilt to end of time!
