The fires in Australia will go down in history as one of the world-wide all-time infamous and catastrophic wildland fire events. Many media outlets around the world are covering it extensively, including some in the United States.
The Boston Globe frequently has excellent collections of photographs of news events, and for these fires they have a stunning group of 36 high-quality images of the fires.
Theage.com.au has an article written by Frank Campbell, a former Australian editor of Wildfire magazine, that is already looking at areas for improvement and what went wrong in the firefight.
The LA Times has an article written by Julie Cart about Australia's Leave Early or Stay and Defend program and how it was implemented during these fires. The program is currently gaining popularity in the Untied States. Ms. Cart also co-wrote an excellent series of articles for the Times in July about wildfires in the west.
